Dear Students & Parents,

What a wonderful year this has been!  We will soon find out if we have been selected to receive the prestigious California Distinguished School Award!  We could not have done this without you.

We are quickly approaching our California Standards Test (CST).  This year our testing period will be from April 30-May14 for all students in the 2^nd –5^th grades. The students have worked so hard and they are making wonderful gains.   Your support during this time is invaluable; we cannot do it without you. This year’s theme is: BE THE STAR THAT YOU ARE: IT’S TIME TO SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW!! Here are some ways that you can help your student to BE THE STAR THAT THEY ARE!! 

• Having your child answer in complete sentences.  Research has shown that when children pay explicit attention to the answers they give, it leads them to think about their responses to all questions.  This helps students to pay more attention to the answers they select on their CST test.
• Complete and turn in all of their homework in the three months before the test.
• Make sure your child goes to bed at a reasonable hour and gets plenty of sleep.
• Eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning.
• Avoid making any appointments where your child has to leave school, especially in the morning.
• Ensure your child comes to school every day and on time.
• Encourage your child to do their best on the test and not to stress.

The CST is a very important look at how well your child is performing at school.  It also provides us information on the strengths of our students as well as the areas we need to provide extra support as compared to previous years.  With your support we believe your child and Crescent School will BE THE STAR THAT THEY ARE: IT’S TIME TO SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW!!  Thank you for all of your care and support this year.
